One of the most overlooked niches of the modeling world is parts modeling, probably due to the lack of pomp and circumstance about it.
However, there are plenty of perks to being the pair of hands you see hanging up in the salon, or the feet you see modeling the newest Jimmy Choo’s. The biggest perk – cash.
Parts modeling can bring in some really good residual income if you land a few good clients, so why not capitalize on your unique parts? Here are a few steps you can take to move closer to earning anywhere from $300-500 per hour and $1,000-$10,000 per day!
Step 1: Decide which parts are your best assets. The most common parts are hands, feet, and legs, but agencies will represent models for lips, arms, back, butt, hair, etc. Whichever part or parts you choose, make sure they are healthy and blemish free. Keeping yourself groomed and toned is essential to booking jobs in this niche.
Step 2: Find a photographer. You will need some professional photos taken of your parts that you are trying to market. Make sure the photographers you choose have experience in parts photography, because there are many out there who do not. You may be able to find one that will shoot you for free, as photographers can use those photos to market their own talent as well.
Step 3: Submit photos to agencies. As you research agencies, take note of how they want you to submit your photos; some require snail mail, others want e-mail, and a few require you to come into the office for an open call so they can meet you in person. If you go to an open call, take a portfolio with you full of only the best photos from your shoots. Parts modeling demands perfection, so don’t put any photos in your book that are anything but flattering.
Step 4: Book jobs. Your agency will market you in the best way possible, so that they can get their paycheck as well. As long as you both are on the same page in regards to where your career is headed, you should be able to trust them and follow the advice they give you. When booked for a job, as always, be professional. This client has specifically chosen you for a purpose, so make sure you know the client’s vision before you begin the process of shooting.
Step 5: Maintain your parts with healthy habits. If you’re a hand or foot model, it is a given that you will be regularly getting manicures and pedicures. Once you’ve gotten established as a parts model, you may find it beneficial to ask your regular nail salon if they would like to be your sponsored salon. You can give them publicity, and they can give you free or discounted services. Eating a healthy diet is important for keeping skin and hair in prime shape. You can also try supplements, such as Vitamin E, C, Zinc, and Omega 3s to ensure your skin and hair is radiant. Sun block will prevent wrinkles. Take care of your body, and it will take care of you!
